Mizoram and other North Eastern states of India bordering Burma and Bangladesh. Who were already grinding in poverty, got trapped in prolonged insurgency and counter insurgency which Left thousands of widows and their children without help and support from any quarter. The whole social fabric was trapped in grip of poverty, illiteracy, decease, exploitation and cruelty particularly against women and children.
In 1995 Ms. Veronica K. Zatluangi, herself a widow and the victim of circumstances ,along with other widow associates , the believers in Christ, and Enshrined with Pathos and Compassion , decided together themselves to face the difficult times and to extend the helping hand to the needy. Ms. Veronica K. Zatluangi and her associate widows took over i.e. MIZORAM HMEITHAI (WIDOWS) ASSOCIATION registered under Societies Registration (Extension to Mizoram) Act. and steered the organization in the field of social work. With the help of various philanthropists, donors, well wishers and compassionates, MHA headed by Ms. Veronica K. Zatluangi as president excelled in the field of social service. Thousands of widows, street children and abandoned children have been benefited. Ms. Veronica K. Zatluangi who is as popular in the area as was Mother Teresa, have been selected for national award for child welfare for the year 2002, by Department of women and child development, Government of India , Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi.
MHA is Non-Govt. , non-profit organization , committed to uplift the weaker section of the society , operating in north eastern region of India, with head quarter at Aizawl, Mizoram. |
